I have many fond memories of playing with paper dolls when I was a child. They provided hours of creativity and entertainment. When my daughters were younger, they found the same joy in paper dolls that my sister and I did. Now that I have a granddaughter, I wanted to share this pastime with her.
We made many of our own clothes for our dolls and that was as much fun as playing with them after they were completed. That’s why I decided to make the dolls and clothes instead of shopping for them.
I thought it would be even more fun to have the dolls be magnetic, so I used my inkjet printer and inkjet magnet from www.printonit.com . I found lots of free paper doll downloads on the internet. Some are colored, some are clip art that you can color yourself. I downloaded the designs, added color to them in a paint program and printed them out on the magnet. When I cut them out, I eliminated the little tabs we used to fold over the dolls because you don’t need them with magnet.
My granddaughter loves the dolls. She can put them on the refrigerator, dress them, change their outfits, dress them again, mix up their outfits and dress them again. They have provided hours of entertainment for her and it’s even more special because Grandma made them!
